Grandma observes strict state fire regulations by standing 15 feet away from me as I ready
to blow out the candles on my belated birthday treat. She then joins us at the table after
Dad douses the cake with gravy and instructs me to "quit this nonsense and get on
with the real reason that we're here: Christmas dinner."
After the tree that they picked out is judged to be too small, my
Mother and her two sisters draw straws to determine who will serve as the "human
pine." Here, Mom and Aunt Pat are pictured mounting the "winner," my Aunt
Jo [center], into a Christmas tree stand.
Now fully decorated, the festive "Aunt Jo Tree" is admired by the crew that is
pictured here: Aunt Jo's twin, Uncle Paul, Aunt Pat, and Uncle Tom. While she appreciates
the rave reviews for her realistic portrayal of an evergreen, Jo can't help but question
her sisters' post-holiday plan to plant her in the wild as part of a
"reforestation" project.
Mom snapped this picture, which shows Jeff and Aunt Pat receiving a
very special personal visit from that rarely photographed holiday icon St. Nick [far
left]. Unfortunately, the would-be-proof of Santa Claus' existence is rendered useless
when his image is obscured by the photographer's thumb.
